We are seeking a Legal Collections Specialist to join our dynamic team. This role will focus on managing collections through legal remedies, conducting thorough research on contract collectability, and working with a nationwide network of attorneys to pursue collection strategies. Experience in commercial collections, contract litigation, or bankruptcy is highly valued but not required. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, the ability to meet deadlines, and experience in managing multiple tasks with accuracy and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Handle collections through legal remedies in coordination with a network of attorneys.
- Perform detailed research using various resources to assess the collectability of contracts.
- Negotiate repayment terms within approval authority guidelines.
- Minimize costs while maximizing recoveries or reducing losses.
- Update contract statuses on a monthly basis and maintain accurate records.
- Manage bankruptcy-related cases, if applicable, and handle related filings (proof of claims, balance calculations, etc.).
- Collaborate with the legal team to ensure timely action on collections cases.
- Support the legal department with other duties as needed.
- Previous experience in collections within a legal or commercial environment.
- Exposure to bankruptcy procedures and an active role in bankruptcy cases (e.g., filing proof of claims, contacting creditors, tracking case progress).
- Knowledge of commercial litigation, default suits, and contract litigation.
- Financial background, including basic math and finance skills (e.g., addition, working with balances in Excel).
- Previous work experience in a legal department of a financial institution, bank, or large law firm is a plus.
- Paralegal experience, especially in bankruptcy and contract law, is preferred but not required.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to meet deadlines consistently.
- Excellent attendance record with minimal unplanned absences.
- Positive attitude and a self-sufficient approach to tasks.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.
