Our client, a prominent engineering firm, is searching for a Director of HR to join their team. This candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources practices and processes. This role ensures the proper implementation of company strategy and objectives while fostering a positive work environment and a people-centric culture.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic HR Management:
- Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with overall business strategy.
- Provide strategic direction and leadership on HR-related issues.
- Serve as a solutions-based partner to the leadership team, introducing new ideas, systems, and processes that align with company values.
- Performance Management:
- Develop and implement performance appraisal systems.
- Guide managers in setting performance goals and conducting performance reviews.
- Employee Relations:
- Manage employee relations by addressing demands, grievances, and other issues.
- Nurture a positive, engaged working environment where employees feel heard and supported.
- Act as a strong presence on the floor—regularly walk the facility, build trust with team leads and hourly associates, and reinforce a people-first culture.
- Possess strong ER (Employee Relations) skills—serve as a diffuser, balancing empathy with company interests.
- Recruitment and Staffing:
- Oversee the recruitment process, including job postings, candidate sourcing, and selection.
- Design and implement a true, scalable recruitment program tailored to high-volume environments.
- Ensure the organization attracts, hires, and retains top talent, including for hourly associate roles.
- Develop and manage the talent acquisition strategy.
- Compliance:
- Ensure legal compliance throughout human resource management.
- Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting HR functions.
- Familiarity with federal contracts, including FAR Clauses and federal compliance guidelines, is essential.
- Compensation and Benefits:
- Design and implement a comprehensive compensation and benefits plan.
- Monitor and review compensation and benefits packages to ensure they are competitive.
- Payroll Management:
- Oversee payroll operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
- Ensure compliance with payroll laws and regulations.
- Training and Development:
- Identify training needs and create or procure professional development programs.
- Implement training programs to ensure continuous development of employees.
- During the first six months, fully learn and perform all current HR functions with the intent to hire an HR Generalist and transition into more strategic responsibilities.
- HR Metrics and Reporting:
- Develop and manage HR metrics and reporting systems to inform business decisions.
- Be data-driven—leverage analytics to drive improvements across HR functions.
- Leadership:
- Lead and develop HR team members.
- Act as a consultant to senior management on HR issues.
- Exhibit patience and grace as you guide long-tenured leaders through organizational changes, explaining the “why” and “how” behind evolving processes.
- Balance strategic vision with tactical execution.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- 5+ years of proven working experience managing HR teams.
- Background in manufacturing, engineering, lab, or industrial environments with experience supporting a large hourly workforce.
- People-oriented and results-driven.
- Demonstrable experience with human resources metrics and data-driven decision-making.
- Knowledge of HR systems and databases.
- Ability to architect strategy along with strong leadership skills.
- Excellent active listening, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company.
- In-depth knowledge of labor law and HR best practices.
