Joanne Karkkanen

Joanne serves as an Accounts Receivable Specialist based in our Greenville office. In her role, she ensures that payments are applied correctly, identifies accounts that need special attention, and communicates with clients to help them stay on course in their payment cycle. She also supports the accounting department by reconciling bank accounts and reimbursable expenses, as well as other accounting-related support. She works closely with the Controller and Accounts Payable. Although she enjoys working with numbers, her favorite part of her position is interacting with clients and giving them the assistance they need.

Joanne graduated from the Tourist Academy in Soderkoping, Sweden, in 2011, after which she moved to Greenville and started working at VisitGreenvilleSC. She enjoyed her role as a Visitor & Member Experiences Specialist for thirteen years as she welcomed visitors, provided member support, and conducted the annual member renewal project.

Interesting Facts:

What is your favorite game or sport to watch or play?

I love indoor rock climbing! Good thing, too, because otherwise, I’m not really what we would call athletic. I am not motivated to run fast to get anywhere! But somehow vertically is different, and if you ask me to find a way up, I might just give it a try.

What do you love to do outside of work?

I love studying the Bible! I am both a Bible student and a Bible teacher. When I see lives transform for the better as an effect of applying Bible principles, including my own life, I marvel at its wisdom which can be applied in any culture and any era. Although from long ago, it’s so refreshingly relevant!

If you had a warning label, what would yours say?

“Do not operate without all filters in place.” When my husband showed me this warning label in a vacuum cleaner manual, I just had to laugh. It seems to me to be a pretty good rule of thumb.
