Prioritizing Company Culture In A Market Shift
As we enter a year of many unknowns with potential economic and hiring market shifts, there are questions about what is to come. There are many things that feel out of our control, but during times of uncertainty, it becomes increasingly important to focus on what is in your control. In a recent blog about leading strategically in times of uncertainty, our Executive Vice President, Vicki Peek, said “putting a plan in place that is forward looking based upon what is in your control, gives certainty, and focuses on opportunity and growth, is critical to success.”
As we consider what is in our control, company culture may not come to mind immediately, but it is one thing that companies can use as tool regardless of market conditions. The way that companies prioritize employees and show appreciation goes a long way at any time, but especially in times of uncertainty. It is one way that companies can demonstrate their continued commitment to employees, which aids in both recruitment and retention strategies.
Company culture is a key component of our success at FGP. We continuously strive to make FGP a great place to work, and we want our employees to feel like valued members of the team. We accomplish this in many ways, including personal and professional development, service opportunities, company-wide events, and employee appreciation activities. All of these are centered on our 3 G’s – Great People, Growth, and Gratitude. As we provide opportunities to connect and learn together, our people grow both personally and professionally and we are able to show our appreciation for all they do.
We pulled together a list of some of our efforts from 2022 to serve as thought starters for ways that companies can implement positive elements of culture and team bonding into their workplace, regardless of market status.
Trainings: structured professional development programs, roundtables on topics of interest to employees, lunch and learns featuring internal and external thought leaders, and a dedicated day of development for all employees.
Employee Appreciation: holiday based celebrations in the office, anniversary gifts, birthday celebrations, apparel and promotional items, and opportunities to share gratitude with each other.
Service Opportunities: partnerships with local nonprofits, participation in community events, hosting collection drives for external partners, and letter writing campaigns for our troops.
Company Events: celebrating successes with our teams, family events, holiday party and company awards, team building day, group workouts, and happy hours.
At FGP, we are committed to focusing on our workplace culture and team environment, and we will continue to focus on that in the coming year.
